Darth Maul, die op Dathomir geboren werd als Maul, is een Sith Lord en de apprentice van Darth Sidious ten tijde van de Invasion of Naboo in Star Wars episode I the Phantom Menace. Omdat Darth Sidious zelf nog de apprentice was van Darth Plagueis was Maul geen echte Sith in de Rule of Two.
Tijdens een gevecht met Qui-Gon Jinn en Obi-Wan Kenobi doodde hij Qui-Gon Jinn en Obi-Wan Kenobi sloeg met zijn lightsaber Darth Maul in tweeën en viel hij in een reactor shaft.
Toch kwam hij miraculeus terug tijdens de Clone Wars, met mechanische benen, waar hij uiteindelijk door Darth Sidious zelf werd gedood
